FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How many days a week are the children on campus?
The children are educated three days on campus and two days at home.  On Monday and Tuesday, students are taught at home by a parent who follows lesson plans provided by the teachers in advance.

Wednesday,Thursday & Friday:
Students attend classes at the CCS campus where they are taught in a traditional classroom by a qualified teacher.

Friday Morning & Afternoon:
A portion of Friday morning is dedicated to Chapel, which includes a time of worship, scripture recital and instruction in God's Word as taught by the CCS dads. Friday afternoon is Enrichment Day, an opportunity for students to enjoy electives.  Each trimester, a family selects two classes for their student/s out those offered. Classes might include: Music (the Christmas musical), Praise Team (they lead Chapel on Fridays), Sign Language, Art, Physical Education (Presidential Fitness Awards), and Crown Financial for kids.

What curriculum is used and how does it work with a parent teaching two days a week?
We primarily use the Abeka curriculum, adding supplemental materials in subjects such as literature and writing (Institute for Excellence in Writing curriculum) for the upper grades. Our teachers prepare all lesson plans for both on-campus and at-home days. Completed lesson plans are sent home to the parent in advance. Parents are responsible for purchasing both their children’s books, as well as the teacher's manuals so that they will be equipped to teach on the two homeschool days.

Do we need to take a parenting class?
Yes.  Families interested in enrolling in Cornerstone are required to take a Biblical parenting class. For more information regarding Cornerstone's philosophy about Biblical parenting as it relates to children in the classroom, refer to "Biblical Parenting" on the home page or click on the "Parenting" link.

What is the family interview?
We desire to get to know each family applying to our school. Our administrator and our spiritual advisor will meet with the parents, as well as each child applying to the school. Christian values as well as moral innocence will be discussed. Often children know the “right from wrong” but may not know the reason behind it. Our prayer is that each family will have already been training the moral reasons for right Christian behavior in the hearts of their children. We understand this process takes time, and that is why we suggest taking a parenting class months before the interview date.

Are there other jobs or responsibilities for a mom other than homeschooling?
Yes. As we are a parent-run school with minimal administrative staff; therefore, we need help on campus during the school week. Each mom is assigned an area of service depending upon her gifts and interests. Such areas of service include: hospitality team, helping out with hot lunches once a month, field trip coordinator, prayer chain coordinator, etc. In addition to the specialty jobs, there are other areas in which each mom participates, such as being a room mom, or serving in your child’s classroom for a few hours once every 6-8 weeks. Also, we ask the moms to help out as lunch recess monitors on a rotation basis. If a mom has younger siblings, she usually arranges babysitting with another mom during the above mentioned times of service.

Do the students wear uniforms?
Yes, the students wear a polo or oxford shirt with the school logo, as well as uniform pants, shorts/skorts, or skirts. They have choices of colors and styles while maintaining a consistent standard of dress.

Are your teachers credentialed?
All of the teachers at Cornerstone Community School are selected first and foremost based on their solid foundation in the Christian faith which is discovered during a comprehensive interview and application process. Their relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, and thus their ability to be godly mentors for our children, is of utmost concern to the administration. In addition, our teachers for fourth through eighth grades are either credentialed or working on their credential. For grades kindergarten through third, a credential may not be required for an individual who is highly qualified based on his/her moral character and other applicable life/teaching experience.

Do the kids have fun?
Yes!!! We not only have a highly academic environment, but also one where memories are made. We have donut days, field trips, Crazy Hair Day, a talent show, science camp, career dress-up day with presentations by Christian professionals, and popcorn/movie assemblies, to name just a few. In addition, Friday afternoon Enrichment Days are always an enjoyable and relaxing time for the children.

What makes Cornerstone Community School different?

Cornerstone Community School was founded for the purpose of bringing families together into a community which benefits a child as he relates to the moral and academic excellence that God desires.  Our school places the emphasis on supporting Dad and Mom in the heart training of the child through God's Word.  This effort results in biblical and academic excellence for our students.  We achieve this by combining the power of home schooling two days a week with the biblical, traditional style classroom three days a week.

How does Cornerstone support Dad and Mom?

Simply, our faculty and administration are trained in the same biblical parenting priciples that our parents are required to learn.  This creates a like-mindedness and a trust that cannot be found in a typical educational forum.  Parents can be assured that their children will spend their school days in an environment that protects and encourages both their academic advancement and their moral purity.

Why is Biblical Parenting so important?

At Cornerstone Community School, we believe that biblical parenting is the only successful style of parenting for Christians.  Because God's Word is Truth, we are dedicated to practicing the principles of His Word in and through our parenting. In this, we will fulfill our duty on earth and teach our children to fulfull their duty as well; that is to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.  We know that as we teach our children the truths of God's Word, we are equipping them to become servants of the Most High God and ambassadors to a lost and dying world with a mission to lead the nations into a saving relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ.
